    DD An Introduction to Social Sciences is a Level 1 module offered by the Open University and is a solid introductory level to many other more specific subjects. If you want to know more about the module content, you can check it out on the OU website module page.

    On a basic level DD provides a starting block for those going back into education at a university level and uses a real life street as the start of introducing a number of social science concepts. City Road, in Cardiff, is studied in detail at the beginning of the module and is frequently linked back to throughout the materials. The road is diverse, with a number of social issues forming the crux of the modules content. OpenLearn is an amazing resource from the Open University, that I will get around to blogging about one day!

    These strands cover a wide range of topics from politics to psychology, economics to social policy. The broadness of the module means that there will inevitably be areas that appeal less to each individual and areas that you will feel more drawn to.

    However, I found some of the content about inequality and social class structure more difficult to spark my interest, which meant my time-management and motivation waned! There are a good amount of tutorial opportunities, with an online tutorial being offered at the start of a new strand, and again just before an assessment is due. There were a number of face-to-face tutorials in our cluster group, although I have not attended any. However, you do get the dates and times at the start of module, so you could plan them into your diary if you wanted to ensure you could attend.
